Various Theories on politics/social status in Xenogears

Dermot

Though I love Xenogears, there was so much raw history and information that I can rarely remember it all... Could I ask you some questions to help refresh the continuity of my memories? :)

Myaru

Sure, but I may have to refer you to pages I've written -- I don't always remember it all either. ^_~

Dermot

Alright. :)
My first question is...what is the exact current relationship between Krelian and Grahf? I know that Krelian works with Miang, and Grahf works with Miang, but how (if in any way) do Krelian and Grahf work together?

I mean...to the best of your recollection?

Myaru

They... seem to have a mutual understanding. When they do work together, it's generally to achieve the same goal -- capture Fei, capture Elly... that sort of thing. But they don't talk much, if at all.

Grahf did, however, help Krel in Merkava... that confuses me, since it ultimately harmed Elly...

Dermot

Yeah...that makes sense. Thanks.
*thinks further*

Myaru

Heh, I hope I can answer it all. ^_~

Dermot

I know. :)
*thinks*

Dermot

Alright, another question. What exactly *is* Zohar, and what makes it different from Deus? That always confused me. And what is the source of Zohar's intelligence and apparent sentience?

Myaru

Zohar is simply a machine - a reactor that was created accidentally to contain the vague power that the people sensed... (This part is a bit unclear - I'm awaiting a better translation on it.) The Wave Existence is the essence of a higher dimension; as it says in the game, human souls are the runoff of this entity, and it's about equal to what we would call God...

Dermot

Okay, I understand.

Dermot

BTW, where might you speculate that Elru was located?

Myaru

Elru is the continent to the south and east of Ignas.

Dermot

Oh, where Taura lives?

Myaru

No, there's another one between the two... I think....

Actually, I'd have to look again. I dont' remember where he lives... I might be thinking about the Shevat crash site...

Dermot

heh :) Taura lives in the continent southeast of Ignas, and the Shevat crash site is on an antarctic island.

Myaru

Right, that's right.... perhaps Taura IS living in Elru...

Dermot

Uh huh. :) Look at the map. :D

Myaru

Yeah yeah. ^_^

Dermot

heh I had actually thought Elru was on the central continent... Or is that where Mahanon was? So confuzzled. :P

Myaru

Mahanon, I believe.

Dermot

Hmm...and what exactly causes that huge crater to open there? Does it have something to do with Merkava?

Myaru

Okay, Taura IS on Elru. I just looked. ^_^

I think that was the Solaris crash site....

Dermot

Oh, that makes more sense. :P Etrenank must have been humongous...

Myaru

I wish they had the size specs in the book.... I'd guess it's a mile across, at the very least. Put that in with a huge atomic explosion... ^_^

Dermot

*reading timeline, remembering stuff*
Poor Bledavik. :P

I get the picture. Though I kinda thought of Etrenank as being much larger, even larger than Shevat, holding millions of slaves. I guess perspective can be inaccurate. :)

Myaru

Well, it might be.... I have no idea....

Dermot

heh

Myaru

You're probably right. ^_^ (I was comparing ot to... ah, one of the ships, I believe...)

Dermot

Aha. This says that Mahanon rises out of the sea. Though where in the sea...it doesn't say.

Myaru

I know that's marked somewhere..... I don't recall where, though.

Dermot

I just thought of something...at the end of the game, Elly probably doesn't have Miang's memories that weren't part of previous Ellies, right?

Myaru

No, I think she does.... because she and Miang merged.

Dermot

Oh, alright. And that means...*thinks*
Fei+Id+Coward+Lacan+Kim+Abel,
Elly+Elly+Elly+Elly+Elly+(Miang*infinity)
That produces two extremely complicated personalities. :P

Myaru

Heh heh heh. ^_^ I'm of hte opinion that the memories fade into something of a blur, unless an event brings something specific up. I don't think the human mind could contain all of that as active memory...

Dermot

haha :)

Oh, I'm reminded...You know the Xenogears OST vocal track, Stars of Tears?

Myaru

Especially considering some of the examples of humanity that I see....

Yes, I recall that one, I think....

Dermot

It's found in the music soundtrack, but not at all accessible in the game. But I found it...there is a lengthy FMV on disc two, which is a complete music video for that track. =) I exported the file to AVI, then converted it to Quicktime, and I can share it as far as your bandwidth will permit. :)

I think this video was supposed to be on disc one, but space constraints dummied it and they stuck it on disc two. In retrospect, I think Xenogears was a victim of severe budget cuts, or else it very well might have been three or maybe even four discs long.

Myaru

It was - one of the designers sid that Square basically got tired of waiting and cut their time and budget... so half of what would have been disc two was left out.

I can't, unfortunately, read quicktime files, either. Bleh.

Dermot

heh :P

You know, I've talked with a variety of people who are convinced that Xenogears and the Chrono series are actually connected...that there are many parallels between Deus and Lavos that may make them either the same being or the same species of organism. And Queen Zeal's hair is blue. :)

Myaru

Hahahahahahahahaha....

Dermot

In Chrono Trigger it *was* revealed that Lavos was instrumental in shaping humanity's path.

Myaru

Well, half the team was... the same. Or something like that. ^_^

Dermot

Though Chrono Trigger was obviously not intended to be nearly as heavy a thinker as Xenogears; the story flow, character development and humor elements resembled most of what Akira Toriyama was involved in making, like Dragon Ball Z.

Well, I think half the team *was* the same. :) Chrono Trigger was a collaboration between prominent game production artists from both Square and Enix. But I don't think Enix had a scrap of involvement in Xenogears or Chrono Cross.

Myaru

Probably not.... unless staff defected.

Dermot

I have a thought...
Hammer's a rat, right?
Seraphita's...a rabbit (or demi-human chu-chu)?
What's Rico? A cat?

Myaru

Rico is..... hmm. ^_^

Dermot

I just had a thought... Nisan and Aveh share so much...yet they're different countries (even before and after Shakhan)? They have the same royal family, and while both recognize the king of Aveh as their monarch and their spiritual center is in Nisan, they seem to have different governments, different official heads of state (the king of Aveh and the Holy Mother of Nisan), and even different foreign policies.

Myaru

That they do.... I've always considered Nisan more of a city-state... something so closely affiliated with Aveh that it makes no difference....

Dermot

Yes...I agree. I remember the game saying that Aveh and Kislev had been at war for years, but no one remembered the reason. But the legal presence of a Nisan facility in Nortune indicates that either Nisan negotiates its own foreign policy, or the war was never supposed to happen.

I had always thought it weird that Nisan had operations in Kislev.

Myaru

It may have just been an operation of mercy.... But I do believe Nisan is its own entity, so Kislev likely wouldn't have a problem with it. Not MUCH of one, anyway....

And everyone knows Nisan isn't a threat. ^^

Dermot

heh, that's true. :)

You know...I just realized. Jesiah has blue eyes, and Billy has blue eyes, but...Primera has iron red eyes. With pasty skin and grey hair...she looks like and could easily pass for a First Class Solarian.

Myaru

The entire family is pure-blooded SOlarian.

Dermot

Oh, that makes much more sense now. :) And when I just now saw that Medena's eyes were blue, I realized that the same could apply to Billy.

Myaru

Right -- all of them were born there, but Primera was born the year they left... or something like that. I'd have to get my notes out.

Dermot

heh. I commented on Primera because I didn't believe she was "pure". I had the impression that Jesiah was a Second Class citizen, and even if Raquel had been First Class, their children could not have been First Class.

Myaru

I'm not sure.... but I think Jesiah is first class.... based solely on how fast he advanced.

Dermot

Are you completely sure that class had any baring in capacity for advancement? Look at Hyuga. :)

BTW, look at Bart and Rene. If you look at their eyes, nose and mouth (but not complexion), they look almost identical. The same for Sigurd and Roni.

Myaru

That's interesting.... considering that their positions are reversed....

And as for Jugend... Well, Ramsus is the one who started the 'rank doesn't matter' movement... most of the Elements were chosen because of their extrordinary ability. Jesiah was the only one who already held a command post by the time the other three graduated.

Dermot

I've come to the conclusion that Sigmund is a well-hidden demi-human. His ears give him away. :P Virtually every normal human character in the game has round ears.

Myaru

I always wondered what happened to him...

Dermot

Well...I know one thing. There's nothing that says that he died. The only thing close to indicative was when Hammer told Rico that he was the next in line...but "next in line" is a common term, even if a head of state is still alive. Sigmund had every chance to be well-protected, IMO, and he's probably just tucked away safely somewhere where few people can locate him.

*trying to think of the type of animal that could have large eye sockets and distinctive black rings around the eyes, like Rico's...*

Myaru

Racoon? ^_^;

You could be right.... Kaiser is in the smae category as Yui, Balthasar, and Gaspar...

Dermot

hehehe :)
*double checks something quickly...*

Myaru

Hmmm?

Dermot

I wanted to check to see if any of the three gurus had pointed ears. Balthasar has slightly tipped ears, but that's all, and nothing I'd say indicative of anything strange.

The other two gurus have hidden ears; maybe they have no ears at all and those things on the sides of their heads are prosthetic.

Myaru

Yeah, the gurus look human, for the most part.... (No, they DO have ears. ^_~)

Dermot

heh :) Then those things around Gaspar's and Taura's ears are devices of some sort?

Myaru

It's my guess that those are the devices Krel planted to keep them alive.

Dermot

(But Bal doesn't have one. Oh well...maybe we'll never know. Maybe they're just artistic decoration.)

Myaru

**grin** Well, his may just be hidden, like Zephyr's is. I don't think Krel could have done it any other way.

Dermot

Well...I get the impression that they were given immortality as a malicious act on Krelian's part...so maybe what's keeping them alive is system-wide and may not be visible on the surface. Besides, I'm almost sure it's nanomachines.

Myaru

Yes, it is....

It's several devices... I think. One on each of them, and then it's connected, somehow, to his computer in Solaris. Krelian's profile didn't give those details....

Dermot

Hm. (One would think that if he could maintain a link with Solaris, that he could also do something to better infiltrate Shevat's shields than something as crude as having Dominia infiltrate it. ^^;)

Myaru

But why would he? Its' all a game to him. ^_^

Dermot

heh, perhaps. :) Come to think of it, the Memory Cubes would be an even easier method.

Myaru

Yeah.... Personally, I don't think he cared... his devices served their purpose, and then... everything played out for him, thanks to the actions of Miang, and Grahf to an extent. All he had to do was sit in his lab and wait patiently....

The devices sustaining Shevat were just his way of spiting them for their betrayal. He could have killed them any time, after all...

Dermot

Yes, I got that impression about the gurus and Zephyr.

Myaru

Zephyr intrigues me.... Heh, and just think what it would be like to live every day knowing Krelian might pull the plug once he's gotten tired of the farce...

Dermot

heh

Myaru

Let me add this disclaimer, just in case you blocked these facts from your memory. ^_~ I am obsessed with Krelian, Miang, Elly, and Shitan.... so if I keep dropping back to them..... ^.^

Dermot

*reading stuff*

Actually, I do think Elly was an Element, and I got the impression that Seraphita was very new. I think that after Elly was exposed for working against Solaris, they cut her off and replaced her slot with Seraphita.

Myaru

Dominia says that Elly was an Element, doesn't she? I recall that from the Kislev attack....

Dermot

In fact, I know that Elly knows both Seraphita and Tolone. If you take her with you into the Zeboim facility, she gets a lot more lines. :)

Yes, Dominia said that. And I also think Miang said that when Dominia and Elly almost got into a catfight on Ramsus's cruiser (after she was "rescued").

I think the line was "You are both Gebler officers and Elements."

Myaru

That, I don't recall.... but it says somewhere that she was involved with them.

Did she say that? (I'm still two hours away from that. Bah.) This is what I get for leaving off the game for a year.

Dermot

heh :)

Yeah...I recently started playing the game a second time through, after an almost two year delay. The thing is, I've never beaten the game. :P I quit when I got to Deus because everyone was too weak and the bosses were too hard.

Have you ever taken Elly with you into the Zeboim facility where you first see Emeralda?

Myaru

Awwwww...... ^_^

Yes, I keep her in my team at all times. I just dont' remember much about it.

Dermot

heh. This time around, I didn't take her with me. I took Citan, Billy and Rico. Rico has some unique comments when you take him along. :P Anyway, if you don't bring Elly, Citan will unlock the seal himself, and when you meet Tolone and Seraphita, Elly isn't there, so the conversation unfolds very differently.

Myaru

How weird....

Dermot

Yeah. Rico expresses how he finds the labyrinth of walls, halls and doors to be pleasant, because it reminds him of prisons like D Block. It's amazing how honest and sincere he can become. Even back in Kislev, he always came across as sincere, regardless whether he was trying to help, or creme other gears in the tournament.

Myaru

Heh, poor Rico... I never take him along. He's the Cait Sith of Xenogears....

Dermot

Pfft :P
heh

Myaru

In MY opinion. ^_~

Dermot

heh
I think that all the characters had thought-out dialogs depending on whether you took them, and on what order they were in the party. All the characters have depth, and you can't really explore this depth unless you take the characters with you. :P

Myaru

That's very true.... I suppose I'm just too attached to Elly and Shitan.... ^_^

Dermot

Well, I encourage you to play a new game and try the other characters liberally. :) If you've seen a character's lines before, don't take them again. Pay equal attention to all characters, because even Rico has a distinctive personality. :) Also, keep a regular series of saved games at intervals, and periodically replay each with a different sequence of characters. Characters even say different things if they're third slot instead of second.

I'm replaying with Virtual Game Station, and since my memory cards are on my HD, I never run out of save slots. :) I fill up a card, then create a new one to fill up again.

But if you're confined to memory cards, then several dozen dollars worth of new memory cards can cover you pretty well, I would think, and the things you learn could enrich your knowledge of all the characters. :) I read you mention that Rico's story was empty. Well, I think it's only as empty as you make it. :P

Myaru

Oh, cool. ^_^ I wish I had that.

Dermot

I've discovered a little mystery in the Xenogears story. :)

Xenogears has two world maps, one with less land and one with more land, right? Well, for most of the game, you only see the map with less land. When you see a copy of the second map after you destroy the Ethos HQ Gate, they say that it's how the world looks from inside Solaris. How would this be? Do the Limiters make people see less land for some reason? And even so, wouldn't Yggdrasil or Thames bump into these places sometimes? :P And furthermore, though I can understand someone like Hyuuga knowing about the second map, a copy of the second map is on the wall in one of the rooms of the Kislev Imperial Palace, and you can find it as soon as you can get inside there. This puts the Limiter theory in question. So...how in the world can land just vanish? :P

Myaru

Perhaps it's just the fact that most people haven't explored the Poles? ^.^ I noticed, in one of them, that the north and south regions are not there at all...

But Solaris would, of course, have that mapped out.

Dermot

I don't buy that. These "hidden" lands are all around, and they would be easy to bump into any day. The Yggdrasil could easily see it. The Thames could. You can even see it from Shevat. Why does the map only change on the second disc? And why was the first map the way it was at all? :P

Myaru

Well, I have no idea. ^_~

As it is, I only had the map in the Perfect Works until you sent me yours.

Dermot

hehe :)

Dermot

Okay...I have a thought. What formed the Nisan crater? Is it a volcanic caldera? A meteor crater? Or...was it caused by something else? Perhaps...the destruction of Excalibur and Merkava 500 years before? But even if so, how could the cathedral be there before the event? Speculation time. :)

Myaru

Well, the mountain resembles something of a volcanic formation...

Dermot

It also has a rising central formation, more indicative of a crash impact. It could be a meteor, or...something else perhaps.

Myaru

Fort Jasper, maybe. The book says (I think) that it was excavated and converted for use as a fortress, but originally, it was a part of the Eldrige -- one of the weapons, more specifically.

Dermot

Hm...that's plausible. Fort Jasper crashed into what is now Nisan...when it was found, it must have been somehow excavated, and moved to its current location in the mountain forests.

Myaru

That's my theory, anyway, now that you bring it up. ^.^

Dermot

heh
Are you aware that "Elhaym" may be derived from "Elohim", the Hebrew name for God and Elijah? :)

Myaru

/Someone/ mentioned that... was it you? ^_^

I don't suppose I could use that information?

Dermot

I never told you that before now. And sure, use it. :)

Dermot

For the longest time, I thought Cain was the first Contact, and Abel the second. :P I thought this because Krelian said he created Ramsus as a clone of Cain to act as an artificial Contact.

Myaru

Artificial. ^_^

I wonder just what Cain's purpose really was... the details, that is. Besides procreating with Miang, I mean. ^.^

Dermot

Miang was Cain's wife?

Myaru

No, just the person I imagine he... populated the world with.

Dermot

Just to refresh something..."Gazel" is the term used for First Class Solarians, right?

I just realized...the Gazel Ministry were brothers and sisters, and didn't have anyone to marry except themselves... I could understand if they were cousins, but they weren't. o_O Oh well...

Myaru

Yes, "Gazel" denotes a pure blooded Solarian. The "Gazel Ministry" represent the first, of course... According to my friend's translation, the more accurate term for them is "Holy House of Gazel".... *shrug*

Heh, and they were /brothers/ only. No women to my knowledge...

Dermot

Ohh......no female Gazel? That kinda...further limits the gene pool. :P

Myaru

Exactly.

Poor Miang. She must have been miserable. ^.^

Dermot

Forget Miang...think of Miang's children not having any unrelated wives! It's like rural Kentucky!

Myaru

Hahahahahahahahaha.....

Dermot

I mean, really! :P The Gazel are inbreeders! Cain's name might as well have been Billy Bob. :P

Myaru

**snicker** That's what *I* thought, but people refuse to think about it. ^_^

Dermot

heh :P
Anyway...they made it...somehow. It's amazing they avoided a great deal of birth defects. Inbreeding is what destroyed the Habsburg dynasty. :P

Myaru

Hahahaha.... well, I suppose it was just the Plan....

Dermot

Plan?

Myaru

Deus's plan. ^.^

Dermot

I can see I have a *lot* of extra studying to do. :P

Myaru

We all do. ^_^

Dermot

I am under the opinion that demi-humans are still completely human in genome, no matter how animal they might look.

Myaru

And action as well, aren't they? Looks arent' what make us human, in my opinion.

Dermot

I'm under the opinion that Ethos grafted animal genomes on top of a human genome, creating people who are much like animals, but are still human.

Yes. :) I've never considered human to be something that's determined by appearance.

I will use the term "normal humans" to describe non-demi-humans, though.

Myaru

Makes sense to me. **shrug**

Dermot

heh...
There was a lot in Xenogears I missed the first time through. Like, I didn't know that the Ethos engineered the demi-human seed.

Myaru

I recall that vaguely, although I'd always thought of it as originating in SOlaris...

Dermot

Well, do you remember the room in Krelian's lab that has research notes on the nine playable characters? Elly and Billy are listed as "Ministry" specimens, Chu-Chu and Emeralda useless life forms, Rico an experimental life form, and all the rest are Lambs. It said that Rico was part of Ethos's special genetic engineering experiments in Kislev, of which the Battling was also part of the tests.

At least...I think it was like that. :D
I think I still have a save file right before that point...

Dermot

Oh, what happened to Rico's mother and father? :)

Myaru

Well, his mother got sick, of course... and Sigmund greived... I didn't really translate much of it because I was looking at getting Krelian's done first. ^^ But I think it basically says exactly what everyone thought it would.

Dermot

Why did his mother leave the palace?

Myaru

To avoid something social. ^^ Probably because Rico's change would give them a bad name.

Dermot

I think Sigmund was only ashamed because *he* was a demi-human and was able to hide it well. But just look at his ears. :) I think he hated who he was, hated demi-humans, and a coming baby was just a painful reminder.

Myaru

That's probably it. I'd really have to look though... and I refuse to look at anything else but the two sections I'm working on now... I keep putting them off as it is....

Dermot

Sorry it's taken so long. :P I got a brainstorm and designed another flag...not from Xenogears though. :P

Myaru

Another flag?

Dermot

Yeah. :) Venture experiment. :P
"Political Correct" United Kingdom flag, with more proper Irish representation, and added Welsh representation. I added orange and two shades of green to the existing British flag design, so I'm not quite sure if it's color-loud or not. :P

Oh man! I spoiled the surprise! =P I have a flaky mind...thinking I already told you I designed flags from Xenogears. :P

Myaru

Oh, well... ^_^

Dermot

I haven't done an official site update yet, but you can see the flags now. :)

These projects involved a lot of patience, geometry and skill. :)

Myaru

I'd like to see them on your site, actually -- easier that way. I don't have the memory to open any images in /any/ photo programs, really -- not with what I'm already doing.

Dermot

No no. They're GIF. :)

Myaru

OKay. ^.^

Dermot

I wanted to make flags for others too... I think I can do a Gebler flag, and an Aveh flag would be *very hard* yet manageable......but I don't know what a Solaris emblem looks like.
BTW, on the Nisan flag, I got the shade of blue from Elly's eyes using the dropper tool. :)

Myaru

Wow, that British flag is VERY colorful. ^.^

And I really like nisan.gif, also...

Dermot

Thanky. :P

And yes, you may use these flags however you wish. I trust you. ^^

Myaru

Oh, the Solaris flag? That's an easy one... It's the Path of Sephirot. The colors are red, white, and black -- the Path is black, and the diamond shape it's on (the exact shape of Elly's green crystal) is red on the bottom, white at the top (again, just like her crystal).

Well, I might save them at a later date. ^_^ When I have space.

Dermot

Oh, and I took a game screenshot that has an emblem for the Thames. Didn't know it had one, did you? :P It's painted on the Thames deck.

Myaru

Well, they're all in the PW. ^_^

Dermot

Oh, they are? :D Then...did I do anything wrong or incomplete with these flags, seeing as I've never seen PW? :)

BTW...all these Xenogears graphics I've been making. You will put them all up on GA *someday*, right? :D

Myaru

If you'd like, yes. ^_^

Well Shevat is different... I think what you used was Roni's personal emblem, or just somethign related to Aveh. Their's is... kind of strange -- I'd have to show you a scan of it to give you the right impression.

Dermot

Yes, I'd like a scan. :) I just remembered from the game that Shevat's emblem was the emblem painted on the Yggdrasil, and it's the same emblem found all over the ship. Plus, it's even shaped like Shevat's saucer. :)

Did I get Kislev and Nisan right? :)
Remember that I used VGS screenshots as the basis for ALL of these. :P

Myaru

Kislev was right, and Nisan was pretty much right... it's the Nisan cross, so there's really not much room to go wrong with that. But Shevat's is... different. It's a circle with white and black designs...

Dermot

Alright. :) I'd love to seen scans of the emblems I missed, if it's possible. :P My screenshots of the Aveh flag are very bad...

Myaru

Right.... next time I can actually scan anything (I don't know /what/ is with my scanner, but it hates color) I'll try to fit those in. I know I have Solaris's already, but it's filed somewhere... If you can find any screenshots of the scene where Sophia crashes into the Merkava ship, or when Bart destroys Merkava in the game... the gun port they show IS Solaris's flag.

Dermot

Okay. :) I think I do have one screenshot with Solaris's emblem, but it's at the Etrenank gathering, and the detail is poor. But I have PSmplay, so I can get any FMV screenshot I want. :)

BTW, what *are* the correct colors for Nisan's flag? :)

Myaru

Ah.... hmm. **looks** Sort of a teal-ish blue, for the cross... but that's all they put on the page. No background, or anything.

Dermot

Hmm......alright. I thought white and Elly's eyes made good colors when I didn't know what the colors were. :) When I didn't know Solaris's flag, I was willing to take Miang's hair color and make the flag a solid purple color. :P

Myaru

**grin** Poor Miang... she doesn't get that much respect. ^_~

Well, the color of the Nisan flag is still nice -- I don't think anyone will go into convulsions if it's not exactly like it is in the book (especially since most people still don't /have/ the book).

Dermot

heh :P
Well, I figured Miang because she along with Elly were the original -Mother-. :P

Myaru

Yeah, I figured. ^.^

Dermot

Does the Ethos emblem and flag have more detail than I presented?

Myaru

No, it's about what you had, but sharper.

Dermot

heh :P I did all this using line and shape tools in Paint Shop Pro, and a lot of mental math. :P

Hmm... (Is it possible that the emblem on the Yggdrasil is an archaic, obselete Shevat emblem?)

Myaru

Well, it looks cool. ^_^

Dermot

Thankee. :P

Myaru

I doubt it -- it doesn't look anything like the emblem they show in the book. ^.^

Dermot

hehe :)

Dermot

You know...if you watch the FMV where Etrenank is destroyed, and pause it here and there, you can make out the Second Class Level, and tons of little dots falling towards the ground. Morbid. :P

Myaru

You can? Cool! I'll have toi try pausing it there. ^_~

Dermot

I have a theory... I think Nisan has long been a traditional influence in Kislev society, but gradually, Ethos exerted more influence where they could. Ethos had to have had a *lot* of influence if they could genetically engineer the demi-humans, and they became common enough. :)

Also, I sometimes wonder if Karen was from Nisan...or at least was a Nisan follower. She had that pendant.

In addition, I realized that there simply aren't many people in Aquavy, apart from Thames (which doesn't always stay in Aquavy), and facilities operated almost entirely by Ethos. As I see it, the world at the time of Xenogears is sparsely populated, and in sorry social shape. I guess it makes sense that it's post-post-post-apocalyptic. ^^

*thinks more*
Yup...you can count the major communities on the fingers of both hands.

I imagine that most other people live in isolated dwellings (like Taura's home and Fei's childhood home), or in nomadic groups (like Sigurd's people and the Thames [if you consider that nomadic]).

And even major communities like Bledavik and Nortune seem likely to have less than a million people, if even 100,000.

Although this all makes sense... There was a historic country of Nimrod...but where is it now? There was Elru, but it's all gone. And nearly all people have Limiters, leaving them in ignorance and unknowing servitude. It's like Solaris keeps them in a carefully controlled herd...like they're all lambs or something. (^_^;;;)

Myaru

Nehheh,, well... ^_^

As for Karen... well, SHevat lives in Nisan's influence, so it could just be that.
