"Eternity in a Box." , Tue 1 Aug 04:44:

After their first lives on the Xenogears world (or rather, excluding them), Fei and Elly began growing younger and younger each time they met and died... Kim and Elly were twemty-eight; Lacan and Sophia were twenty-five when they died. And then we have the current incarnations... at 18. Does anyone else see a pattern, hmm?

Their age decreases first by three years, then by six years... every time they're reincarnated. Not quite exponential, but... interesting just the same.

So what do you think would have happened if they cycle had continued? Pretty soon they might have been dying in their infancy... and then perhaps the cycle might have turned in upon itself and caused them to search for each other their next life, yet never quite meet... or perhaps meet at an old age... and get younger, and younger, all over again...

Their lives were, after all, a circle. ^.^ Urobolus was the perfect symbol for them. And just imagine this endless string of tragedy I just described. ^.~

well, this is surely an interesting thing to notice, but I'd think it's been more weird that Elly always got the same name in her every incarnation. I mean, her name is given by her parents right? So how can their parent know that they should call their daughter Elly while the parents of the Contact don't remember that their son's true name is Abel but just give him various other names?

Hey Myaru - I just wanted to say, I noticed a similar pattern...and that it's refreshing to see there is someone else out there who spends as much time as I do wondering about those kinds of things =).

Peace -

When they died is not the point Lacan and Sophia for instance where childhood friends remember?

That wasn't the point at ALL, AC, dear. Try to stay on topic, if at all possible? This is about the cycle, not what age Lacan and Sophia met. That is quite clear in the book.

So Kim and Elly met at unknown age (could have been 18? maybe you know it?) and died age 28...
Lacan and Elly met when they were kids (could very well have been 2-5 years old when they met, living in the same vilage and all) and Sophia died age 25 but Lacan died much later (not counting Grahf's spirit who is 500 years old)
Fei and Elly met at age 18 and who knows when they were supposed to die? Maybe at age 36? I don't see any pattern. Sorry, dear^_^

If this was a serious reply... well, whatever. I don't have anything else to do at the moment. But try to pay attention this time.

The issue is not - NOT - when they met, AC. It's when they DIE. Do you understand? They can meet at any given time, but when they die...

Kim and Elly died at 28.

Sophia died at 25.

Fei's Elly would have died at 18 - if you recall, she was all ready to sacrifice herself in removing Deus, and she was 18 at that time, as far as we know.

So... 28, 25, 18. 28 minus 25 is 3. 25 minus 18 is 6.

First there is a difference of three years. Then it doubles to a dfference of six years. It's a fairly simple concept.

Now, if I'm wrong about the exact ages, the number pattern goes out the window. But the fact remains that each time Elly sacrifices herself to save someone, she and Fei keep getting younger and younger each time. That indicates something of a cycle - but then, I hope you already realized that. ^^

It would have been very odd... Seeing a couple of 9 year olds in love would be awfully weird, especially since kids that age tend to think the other sex is 'icky'. Who knows, maybe they'd just be friends and not let the relationship get as far as it did with Fei and Elly

"Have you ever been in love?" Kissoon replied.
"Yes I think so."
"Then you've been to Quiddity twice. Once the first night you slept out of the womb. The second occassion the night you lay beside the woman you loved. Or man was it?" He laughed. "Whichever."
"Quiddity is the sea."
"Quiddity is the sea. And in it are islands called the Ephemeris."
"I want to go there." Jaff breathed.
"You will. One more time you will."
"When?"
"The last night of your life. That's all we ever get."

*grin* I didn't mean that, necessarily, but you're right. ^_~ I wouldn't want to see that, personally.

But what I mean is... assuming they were the right reincarnations, they'd still meet every time, just as their cycle indicates - the only difference would be the depth of their relationship in those given lives. So it seems, anyway. Although I'm sure there would be some sort of age limit... the youngest being nine, perhaps, before the cycle starts anew again.

It's just an idle theory. ^_^
